Our crew
Roeland hails from the Netherlands, and is ordinarily called 'Bob', because his name is not the easiest to pronounce for any nationality but Dutch. He is a multilingual PADI dive instructor and absolutely loves his job. More importantly, he is capable of bringing his love for diving, across to his students. Guided diving is another strong point. He knows Bonaire's divesites like his back pocket, and is eager to show the myriad of Bonaire's undersea creatures to his guests. You can find 'Bob' regularly grinning: "I have to watch myself not to have more fun than my guests, it would just be inappropriate" |
Bart also comes from the Netherlands and has been diving professionally on Bonaire for years. He too, is a multilingual PADI instructor and an SSI 5000 platinum pro. Bart has been a very active member of the nature conservancy groups on Bonaire. He is the co-founder of FPKB, the foundation to preserve Klein Bonaire, and a board member of the STCB, the organization to save Bonaire's sea turtles. Bart has been managing other dive operations, which gave him a good insight of the needs of his guests. He says "It is not so important what we think we must offer, it is important that we offer what our guests want". |
Jeffrey was a professional cook and a very good one! While cooking in the evening he got infected with the dive bug during the day! Volunteering no less than one full year at our City location, he climbed the PADI ladder, and eventually became an instructor. We didn't bother with a probation period and hired Jeffrey full time, the very day he became a fully certified PADI, SSI and WOSD dive instructor. Now he is our DOM and the Wannadive Tekkie |
Fred comes from Belgium. He started diving in 2005, and believe it or not, it was with Wannadive! In fact, he was one of Jeffrey's first official open water students. He loved Bonaire and the diving right away. Therefore he decided to come back to the island a year later to get wet again. In a couple of months he climbed the PADI ladder and became a divemaster. After a short break to Belgium, he came back at the end of 2006 to become an instructor. Bart told him during the IDC: "If you pass the exams, you've got yourselve a job!" And look who's still here now! Fred says: "For me, teaching people how to dive is like farting with confidence. It makes me smile!" |
Fialka is a freelance television director. She started diving 5 years ago in the "Maarsseveenseplassen" in Holland. One dive in the tropical waters of Indonesia was enough the make here realize .. "this is it, I am going to be a dive instructor in a foreign country!". She started in Egypt, went to Australia, Curacao and after that she landed in Bonaire and fell in love with the Island. "I still get a kick when I see the seahorses, the eagle rays, turtles and especially the faces of the guests when you take them diving for the first time" :-) |
Rutger is a "Happy" guy from Holland. Almost all other nationalities then Dutch call him Roger because they can't say his name right! Rutger started with Wannadive in June 2008 as a dive master in training and he was immediately hooked on diving and Bonaire. He came back in April 2009 to do his IDC on the island and also did another internship at Wannadive. After a successful course he went back to Holland to finish his school and he came back in October 2009. Two days after he finished his exams he took the plane to work at Wannadive fulltime! "diving gives me such a free and relaxed feeling, and to share these feelings with our guests and seeing them smile is just amazing. I love it ! " |
Emma has been an avid diver for years, discovering the underwater world on exotic locations around the world, such as Mexico, Bali and Egypt, before she arrived on our island. Emma passed our divemaster intern program, subsequently got her PADI instructor license, and we immediately offered Emma a job. Emma accepted and so joined our crew. Emma can teach courses in several languages, from beginner thru divemaster. Emma is a licensed nurse. Together with Bonnie we now have two professional nurses on our staff, we guess we are in safe hands!! |
Mir jam also comes from Holland. She started out as a regular Wannadive guest in 2002. She's been hooked on the island ever since and simply can't resist it. Mirjam has been back every year since. After her divemaster internship at Wannadive in 2005 she became a dive instructor in Holland. But Bonaire was always on her mind and after working here for several months , she decided to move to this lovely island in November 2009 to be a dive instructor and have the best job there is: teach people how to dive & enjoy the underwater world! |
Bonnie (63) is a nurse from the USA. She and her husband Ron sailed over the world for 10 years. When they came to Bonaire for the first time they got there Open Water with Bob. So that is also the first time they came in touch with Wannadive. Bob scarred them so much that they decided to sail some more and went to Europe. But they couldn’t get Bonaire, Wannadive and of course Bob, out of there heads and that is when they decided to crash down on Bonaire. They are living here now for almost 2,5 years. Bonnie passed for here divemaster in the beginning of this year, 2009. The boat dive is what she loves the most. “It’s so great to help people out, and show them what the underwater life is about. Every dive is different. And the best part is the smiling faces when you enter the shore”. Bonnie is a great person and helps us out with everything without complaining. Invisibles is her favorite dive site on Bonaire. The double reef is what makes it so special for her. Her motto “Every dive is a gift”. And I heard from some Wannadivers that she has another Motto “DON’T TOUCH MY GEAR!!!!” J |
Andy is our "Crazy Englishman”!!!! He first got certified in Mexico and has been diving for 10 years now. After coming to Bonaire on a cruise and visiting Wannadive, he fell in love with the island and decided this would be ‘Home’. Since buying his house here 5 years ago, he has travelled back- and forwards from England every year and always when here, diving with Wannadive. He decided to advance his diving qualifications and last year started his Dive Master Internship with Wannadive. Passing successfully, he now enjoys Guiding Dives and passing on his knowledge to customers in his own way and language, providing guests with a smile!!!!!! “Diving is an adventure, with new and exciting experiences shared every day with the guests. DIVE TO LIVE, LIVE TO DIVE!!!!” |
Sal is our hardest working guest. Sal & Patty have known Bart & Bob since their Buddy Dive days and they never stopped diving on Bonaire. Now Sal is combining his vacation with his passion. He loves to educate people to dive in a correct way and to share his beautiful pictures with everyone who wants to see! He is a divemaster and every winter he is our temporary worker. His most important job is scrubbing the rinsetanks and learning a new Dutch word daily. If you want to see frogfish, just ask Sal, he'll wear his special hat to find you one! |
